Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
April Stevens is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. She earned her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Social Work from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Her concentration was in mental health. She completed an internship at the Tuscaloosa County Department of Human Resources in the Child Protective Services unit and an internship at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in their MAPS program studying Mental Health, Substance Abuse and PTSD. Prior to her social work studies she studied two years of Special Education, completing 2 practicums in Intellectual Disability classroom settings.
Since graduating April worked in a variety of settings with various populations. April has been the Coordinator and Therapist for a Children’s Day Treatment Program, a Prevention Specialist in schools and office settings, and a Rural Therapist with the Drug Court system. A major portion of her training and work experience has been in Substance Abuse prevention and treatment, along with Mental Health treatment for those with Substance Abuse history including co-dependency issues.
April values family and enjoys working with families and couples. She feels her personal life experiences lend well to developing rapport and an understanding of her clients. April provides individual, couple and family counseling.
