Bullying is a common experience for many children and teens. With so many ways to ridicule, criticize and mock one another through social media, often in ways that allow for anonymity, bullying is often something that children and teens have difficulty escaping even in the privacy of their homes. This can be stressful and de-valuing for a child, as well as distressing for the parent who watches them struggle.
This is a painful experience for children and teens, as they are still developing coping skills that may strengthen their abilities to handle social stressors later in life. They can often feel alone, defeated and hopeless. When a parent becomes aware that their child is dealing with these issues, it is important to communicate support, respect and acceptance in a way that empowers your child's self-esteem and encourages them to take appropriate steps when being bullied.
We can help you and your child manage the emotions of being bullied, as well as developing a strategy for you to support your child as much as possible, as well as helping your child incorporate some positive coping skills to manage their situation. One of our licensed, experienced counselors can provide you with the skills you need to improve the way your child views themselves, their obligations and their role when it comes to relating to their divorced parents in a respectful and healthy manner.
