What to Expect

How Do I Make An Appointment?
You may click here to visit our web portal to explore session availability or by calling our office at (205) 752-2504. Once you have an idea of when you would like to have your first session, you can call our office to find out more details about our sliding scale fee or any insurance coverage that may apply. (If you have insurance, having your insurance card handy during this call will be important.)

During this first contact, our office staff may ask just a few cursory questions about the nature of your issues in order to make the best possible match between your concerns and our counseling professionals. If you have reservations about sharing details at this point, you do not have to answer any questions with which you are uncomfortable.

How Long Should I Expect Counseling to Last?
The therapy process is based on the needs of each individual client.  It is common for our therapists to see individuals, couples, or families every one to two weeks for
about six to 10 sessions. As progress is maintained, you can expect your therapist to gradually lower the frequency of the appointments until your success in therapy can be maintained without regular follow up visits.

Overall, you can typically expect between five and 15 sessions. This may appear to be a large investment in time and money, but there are few things that will have an impact on your quality of life that a healthy relationship and a positive outlook on life can have.

What Should I Expect in the First Session?
You will need to arrive about 30 minutes early for your first appointment to complete some paperwork. Each session is normally scheduled to last 45-50 minutes, though your first session may take longer.

The first session is an assessment conducted with you by one of our therapists.  This is an important step in determining the best way to help in your particular situation.  During subsequent sessions, this assessment will provide the basis for an individualized plan of action, created by you and your therapist.  This will help ensure your success.

If you would like to make an appointment for a face-to-face session or an online session with one of our counselors, please call (205) 752-2504.
