Note from the Director

Hi!

My name is Larry Deavers and I have served as Executive Director of Family Counseling Service since 2006. I am familiar with all aspects of the Agency. In 1994, I joined Family Counseling Service as a counselor and program director, where I supervised the Domestic Violence Intervention and Anger Management programs.  As Executive Director, I have shifted my focus from managing individual programs to managing the business of the Agency as a whole. However, as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I most enjoy the work I do with
individuals, couples, and families through our counseling services. Helping individuals find solutions to their concerns and develop a strategy for taking back
control of their lives is the most rewarding part of my job!

I also serve as the main point-of-contact for our Employee Assistance Program, where we provide a wide range of counseling services for employees of local companies, as well as advisory and training services to employers.

In 2015, I was honored to accept the United Way of West Alabama Agency of the Year Award on behalf of the Agency.

Blog
I am passionate about mental health and often share some thoughts through my blog. Read my latest post here.

In the News
We are lucky to have new outlets in West Alabama that highlight the need for mental health services. Take a look at some of the most recent articles where Family Counseling Service has been featured.

Additional Resources
I have put together a list of online resources for parenting, relationships, physical and emotional help, and many others. My hope is for no one to face life adversity alone. These resources can be helpful, but not as genuine as meeting with someone who has the skills and listening ear needed to help you develop a plan for whatever struggle you are facing.
